ALBANY, NEW YORK - September 21, 2011 - How do you get the word out to
those who may not necessarily be “in the know” but live and work in the
community? Invite them to come see for themselves. This was the idea that
put into motion LaSalle School’s Courtyard Gathering.
LaSalle's reputation as an agent of healing for at-risk youth and families has
largely resided within the circle of those who are familiar, and involved in the
industry itself.
“We do great work here. Sometimes our work goes unnoticed and even our
closest neighbors don’t quite know what it is we do on campus.” said Agency
Board Member BJ Costello. "That is why it is important for us to bring those
people to LaSalle, to invite them to our 'home' so they can see first hand the
great work done right here on campus.”
On September 21st, members of the school’s Board of Trustees and
Foundation Board of Directors extended an invitation to a few friends,
colleagues, and supporters to come onto campus. This was an effort to inform
a wider population of the impact made daily at LaSalle. Also it was an
opportunity for them to see first hand just what LaSalle has to offer.
LaSalle School is a fixture in the Pine Hills Neighborhood just outside
downtown Albany. It has existed for more than 150 years serving disadvantaged
youth and families. LaSalle School, in the eyes of many, is a place where kids
are sent to straighten out their lives or for a “time-out”. This is an image that
LaSalle looks to change.
"Several years ago, I described the work done at LaSalle and how proud I was
to serve on their Foundation Board," said Ayco Vice President Mike Conway.
He went on to say that a colleague of his began donating to LaSalle but had
never been to the school. Other board members also wanted to open up
LaSalle's doors to their friends and colleagues. It was a terrific way to educate
and improve our image at the same time. People were able to observe and
engage in the services LaSalle has to offer. After tours of the school led by staff
and students, guests enjoyed a reception in the the Christian Brothers
community house.
From all reviews, this evening was very successful in raising awareness of the
tremendous programs and services the school offers youth and families. We
look forward to hosting many more Courtyard Gatherings.
